Forced Convection

Heat transfer between a surface and a fluid is conventionally known as convection heat transfer. If the fluid movement is accelerated by an external device such as a fan or pump, then the process is known as forced convection heat transfer. It is necessary to understand the hydrodynamic behaviour of the fluid in order to obtain a better understanding of heat transfer phenomena. Flow behaviour generally depends on fluid properties and the boundary conditions. This chapter deals with concepts in forced convection heat transfer.

KEY CONCEPTS
  • The term forced convection is used if fluid motion and mixing is caused by a fan or pump.

  • The transfer of heat from the surface of a heat exchanger to the fluid being pumped through it ...
