5.3 Determination of the Constants a and b

There are different methods of determination of a and b. We shall discuss them one by one.

  1. From the coefficient of thermal expansion and compressibility of the liquid:

    Let v1 be the volume of 1 gm of a liquid at pressure p1 and temperature T1. Let v2 be volume of the some mass of the liquid at the same pressure P1 and at different temperature T2, then

    The volume v1 of the same mass of liquid could be changed to v2 by changing the pressure from p1 to p2 at constant temperature T1. Then
