Other Health Information Technology Systems Commonly Used Within Healthcare Organizations
Though the EMR is the central healthcare IT system used in most healthcare organizations, frequently many other systems that interact with the EMR are also used to support the organization, particularly in hospitals and large organizations.
The admission, discharge, transfer (ADT) system tracks the location and movement of patients within an organization and communicates with the EMR and departmental systems, conveying information on bed, hospital ward location, care team, attending physician, and other information. They may be separate systems connected to the EMR using HL7 interfaces or may be integrated with the EMR and with the registration system.
