This chapter reviewed some fairly common workflows, roles, and documentation requirements related to patient care in an ambulatory setting on an EHR. Providing healthcare in ambulatory settings is dependent upon multiple workflows that vary considerably depending upon the size and the specialty of the practice and on provider preferences. The implementation of HIT in practices can result in substantial improvements in efficiency and can generate additional revenue for the practice, if the tools are used in an effective manner.
