Chapter Review

In this chapter, we covered key concepts about the structure and functioning of our healthcare system. We evaluated performance by examining three areas: cost, quality, and access. We then discussed the core types of institutions and healthcare professionals that are on the front lines of care delivery. We described four types of care (acute, chronic, preventive, and end of life) and the differences between them. We concluded with a discussion of the role of government, focusing on the multilevel effort to promote public health. Within each area we highlighted emerging trends.
