9.7. Learnings and Implications

Organizational codependency is seductive. Its current manifestation is the result of more than fifty years of post-World War II organizational strategies designed to tie employees in for the long term. It is easy to be lulled into a pattern of pleasing and controlling. We must have the courage to engage in detachment, stop defining ourselves in relation to our organizational affiliation, and resist the simplicity of putting a taproot into organizational soil. We need to stop controlling and manipulating the system and let go. Above all, we need to connect with something bigger than ourselves, with a personal core purpose.
