“Runs-on-schedule” is a measure of success commonly used by steel manufacturers. Investigations using this index have found that a mill's success is heavily affected by how well it is managing the three Rs of organization life: Rewards, Respect, and Recognition. Specifically, the management package that is characteristic of plants with near-perfect records of successful “runs-on-schedule” contains gain sharing, a plentiful array of opportunities for training, employment security, and the use of teams to solve work problems.
