Rallying the Team

Friday, December 4, 12:35 p.m. . . .

Barton took a deep breath, trying to calm his jitters. He stood at the window of a now-empty meeting room in the historic Seattle Edgewater Hotel, where he’d sought refuge to gather his wits. Through the window, the sun broke through a cloud and reflected from the waters of Elliott Bay: a good omen, he hoped. The rain clouds that had descended earlier that week had suddenly dissipated.

It surprised Barton that he felt so nervous. But a lot rode on how he’d handle the next few minutes. His anxiety combined in a volatile mix with excitement.
