In a way, the Deployment slot is just like having another App Service, but the tools that you use for deployment are aware of the Deployment slot, making it easier to select where you want to deploy to.
In Visual Studio, when you create your publish profile, you can select the App Service slot:
With an Azure DevOps project, you can configure your release pipeline to deploy to a Deployment slot:
