Integration runtimes

Integration runtimes are used by ADF to provide infrastructure for our data integration for sources that are in different networks. There are three types of integration runtime:

  • Azure integration runtime: This is used for activities between cloud objects in Azure virtual networks.
  • Self-hosted integration runtime: This is used for activities between cloud and private or on-premises networks, for example, copying data between an on-premises data warehouse and an Azure Blob storage.
  • Azure-SSIS integration runtime: This is used to execute SSIS packages in Azure. We'll have a dedicated chapter for this integration runtime.
