Selection for public safety jobs can be characterized as high stakes and extremely litigious. Creating test batteries for public safety jobs requires that a practitioner deal with political pressures, unions, lawyers, escalating costs, and reduced budgets. There is also the high cost of a mistake: selecting the wrong police officer or firefighter can potentially have a disastrous impact on public safety and welfare.
