Foreword
When Professor Klemeš called me early in 2012 to ask me to write a foreword for his Handbook of Process Integration (PI) it seemed like a call from a previous life. I said I had not been involved in the process industries for about ten years, so how could I do justice to some of the latest work in the field? Jiří Klemeš was just as I always remembered him: he never gives up. So here we are.
The agreement reached was that I would attempt to put the contributions in this handbook in context with the early days. This I’m happy to do.
