Michael R.W. Walmsley, Martin John Atkins and Timothy G. Walmsley,     University of Waikato, New Zealand

Abstract:

Heat recovery loop (HRL) systems are shown to enhance indirect Heat Integration of large multi-plant sites containing semi-continuous processes. Process Integration (PI) methodologies developed for batch processes are applied to semi-continuous processes and to multi-plant sites containing numerous semi-continuous processes. A design methodology for liquid heat recovery loop systems based on traditional Pinch Targeting methods is presented, and the method is demonstrated using two illustrative examples and an industry case study.
