Abstract:

This chapter provides an overview of key problems and tools in the area of conserving material resources. The introduction discusses the primary classes and strategies of material conservation problems. Next, overall mass targeting techniques are presented to determine performance benchmarks independent of technologies and cost. Then, various techniques are discussed to attain these targets in a cost-effective manner.
