Chapter 4

Exploration

Abstract

Exploration for crude oil and natural gas originated in the latter part of the 19th century when geologists began to map land features to search for sediments that had a high potential to contain crude oil and/or natural gas. This chapter focuses on the exploration methods that are used to identify locations where oil and gas can exist.
