A comprehensive treatment of the cognitive approach to instructional design would go well beyond the scope of a single chapter, of course. This chapter will focus on one of the most critical parts of the design process, the definition of instructional strategies. We apply current cognitive-based research on teaching and learning to formulate instructional strategies for the different knowledge types one typically addresses in training.
