Abstract

Electronic devices that are not directly attached to the 230- or 110-V power lines need independent or autarkic power supply, typically in the range of 3–15 V. The well-known battery technology is used for this purpose. Printing technologies offer new opportunities for producing such batteries in terms of very low overall thickness, bendability, and complete design or layout flexibility. In this chapter, how printed batteries work and how they can be manufactured is described.
