Mining

The subject area Mining deals with milestones in energy use as it relates to mining technology. This applies mainly to the mining of coal, although entries also appear here for other types of mining that extract material for energy uses, such as uranium for nuclear energy.

The entries in the Mining section include advances in mining equipment and techniques, notable instances of mining disasters, and significant examples of progress in mine safety. Often, entries in the category of mine safety represent a reaction to a notable disaster, or an effort to prevent such an occurrence in the future.
