Solar

Humans have used solar energy for their entire history, beginning with the simple, direct use of solar energy for heat and warmth. As early as 2800 BC solar orientation become a basic principle of design for Egyptian temple construction, with pyramids positioned to show the change in the Earth’s location relative to the Sun over the course of a year. By the 400s BC, classical Greek architecture developed widespread use of passive solar energy. Socrates stated the basic principles of this practice: homes are oriented toward the south, and eaves are added to provide shade for south windows in summer.
