14.1. INTRODUCTION

Regardless of the EQ model followed or assessment tool used, emotional intelligence (EI) encompasses a social element that has again come under the spotlight. While definitions of emotional intelligence vary, each is sure to mention the relationship with "others." Half of Daniel Goleman, Hay/McBer, and Richard Boyatzis' ECI scales are devoted to social awareness and social relationship management. Jack Mayer, Peter Salovey, and David Caruso address social management in their MSCEIT®, while Reuven Bar-On emphasizes this aspect in the EQ-i® under a composite scale called the interpersonal domain.
