In the real world, any time our assessment, be it instrument-driven or clinically informed, shows a significantly enhanced skill, we consultants should also search to see whether its complementary skill is effectively and robustly present. The presence of a complementary skill reduces the risk that the enhanced competency is actually a hidden weakness.
