Arguably the MSCEIT® measurement provides an insight to key abilities related to emotional intelligence. As an abilities measure, however, it also has the same limitations of all other measures of abilities—namely, the presumption that there is not much one can do about what abilities one has except learn some behavioral "work-arounds." For example, if one does not have the ability to perceive emotional expressions in the faces of others, the individual is not likely to develop this capacity. An individual might memorize certain facial cues and have an "emotional checklist," but not have enhanced the basic ability.
