12.4. ESI AS A SITUATIONALLY DEPENDENT CONCEPT

ESI, like IQ, is most often discussed as if it is a single score on an instrument, such as the EQ-i® total score or the MSCEIT® total score. This total score is a meta-view of ESI as measured by the instrument and is not a very good predictor of behavior or success. As discussed above, at its micro-level, the EQ-i® is composed of fifteen subscales and the MSCEIT® of eight subscales. These scales seem to be where most of the ESI predictive power lies.
