In the example that follows, the coach's efforts to deal with some basic business issues rapidly lead to the discovery of long-standing behavior patterns that were undermining the client's success professionally and in her personal life. In order to be able to help her client achieve positive progress, she helped her client access background behavior patterns by directing her attention to the sensory information that contained and masked some of the emotional and cognitive data she needed to move in a new direction. Working with a client's sensory representation systems requires specialized training because they engage a deep level of processing that includes unconscious as well as conscious awareness.
