LESSON 32Call Me After the 1st!

“Call me after the 1st!” Every December, these are the words most often heard by salespeople. It’s almost like a ritual; you know it’s coming, but you hope that your ears won’t hear the sounds. Most salespeople reply, “Sure, I’ll call you on such and such a day.”

Do not do that! Yes, you heard me. Don’t cave in and whimper out of the office or off the phone like a beaten puppy. Do the right thing and act like a professional salesperson. Your job is to help the customer if you can, and sometimes that might mean doing something different.

Don’t get me wrong. If the customer is in the retail business and this is her busiest time of the year, naturally you will abide by her wishes and call back when things slow down. ...
