How It Works

First, let's get some terminology straight: As the name suggests, Notification Services is not just a single service. It is a platform and set of supporting tools that help you produce notification applications. A key component of a notification application is a Windows service that Notification Services provides for you, but it does not constitute the entire application.

Unlike SQL Server proper, you don't install Notification Services, then build notification applications that connect to it with client software.
