  • I've found Liz Castro's book XML for the World Wide Web Visual Quickstart Guide to be a concise yet thorough treatment of the subject. Liz writes good books, and I've found this one particularly useful.

  • O'Reilly's XML in a Nutshell also offers a concise treatment of the subject material. Unfortunately, it does not cover schemas, but it does cover most of the other important topics adequately.

  • Steve Holzner's Inside XML is also a good read. It's comprehensive and covers many key XML subjects in great detail.

  • Learning XML, another book by O'Reilly, is another good introductory text. It contains a nice introduction to the many XML parsers out there and delves into a few topics omitted by some of the other books (for example, XML Schema). ...
