W HEN ANALYSING A COMPANY three key areas should be examined: management, operating performance and financial position. Using annual reports and other published information to analyse the past and forecast the future in two of these three areas has been covered in earlier chapters. This chapter goes over some of that ground again, considers approaches to assessing the strength of management and discusses the unavoidable mix of the quantifiable and the qualitative necessary to make an overall assessment of a company’s performance and its future prospects.
