Analyzing the Process Model

Once the model is built, you should analyze it and look for opportunities to improve the result. Using the process model, investigate "what if " scenarios. Others may request specific improvement goals, and you will be asked to find ways to meet them. Here are some common examples:

  • Reduce the maximum time throughout the process.

  • Reduce the typical time.

  • Reduce the minimum time throughout for special cases.

  • Allow for an increase in time for one step and maintain the same time throughout the process.

  • On a decision point, decrease the percentage of time for the more expensive decision.

  • For parallel tasks, focus on the most expensive task for time reductions.
