9.5. Final Thoughts

Windows Vista brings a lot more new security goodies to the table. But it's Group Policy that's the delivery vehicle.

Let's review some fine points before we say au revoir to Group Policy and security (for now, anyway):

  • Windows XP has a wireless policy you can use right away. However, to use Windows Vista's wireless and wired policy, you need to upgrade the schema.

  • Internet Explorer 7 has a lot of goodies to play with. And, they fixed my (least) favorite aspect of Internet Explorer. That is, when you clear out the proxy server setting, Internet Explorer 7 will recognize this and accommodate. Nice.

  • User Account Control is a good thing. Don't turn it off entirely. However, use the information here to tweak it based on your situation ...
