Abstract

Innovation has been a characteristic of human development from our earliest stages. Innovation in technology has allowed, and continues to offer, opportunities to change our way of life, often in ways which were not predicted by contemporary observers. Some developments are totally new: many are based on new uses for the technology which already exists.
