There are scores of great books aimed at boomers and work. Here are a few I recommend, but it is by no means the ultimate list. There are always new ones coming along. No doubt, I have inadvertently neglected some titles. But the ones you will find below will certainly get you started on your research and provide you with innovative ideas, inspiration, and guidance for find your next great job.

The Big Shift: Navigating the New Stage Beyond Mid-Life (Public Affairs, 2011) and Encore: Finding Work That Matters in the Second Half of Life (Public Affairs, 2008) by Marc Freedman. Freedman is the founder and CEO of Encore.org, a nonprofit that promotes second acts for the greater good.

Composing a Further Life by Mary Catherine Bateson (Knopf, 2010). In her latest book, the famed anthropologist focuses on the newly emerging period of active engagement that falls roughly between ages 55 and 70. She calls this period Adulthood II.

The Couple’s Retirement Puzzle: 10 Must-Have Conversations for Transitioning to the Second Half of Life by Roberta K. Taylor and Dorian Mintzer (Lincoln Street Press, 2011). A great resource for dealing with a working retirement for couples.

Diary of a Company Man: Losing a Job, Finding a Life by James S. Kunen (Lyons Press, 2012). An inspiring story of being fired after two decades with Time Warner in a corporate downsizing, and finding a new beginning teaching English as a second language.
