Chapter 7. Leveraging the Untapped Computation Power of GPUs
Fast Spectral Synthesis Using Texture Interpolation
Richard Townsend, Karthikeyan Sankaralingam and Matthew D. Sinclair
In this chapter we develop a hardware/software platform,
, that takes a unique approach to computation on GPUs by leveraging the interpolation capability of GPU texture memory. Our solution is motivated by the computational needs of asteroseismology, which we briefly outline. Beyond the specific application to asteroseismology, our work provides the first investigation into the use of texture interpolation functionality for non-graphics computations.
