Campaign Cloning Explained

Campaign cloning is simply making a copy of an existing campaign and changing a single campaign-level parameter. For example, if you have a Search campaign that you want to expand into the Display network, you can copy the Search campaign, change it to Display, and upload it to AdWords in about 5 clicks and 45 seconds.

Have a campaign that's working great in the UK that you want to try it in Australia and New Zealand? That clone might take eight or nine clicks and a minute and a half. Want to target iPad users? Clone a computers campaign in Editor and then spend 30 seconds tweaking your settings online.

We cover the mechanics of campaign cloning in Chapter 10, our elegy to Editor. In this chapter, we go far beyond mechanics and tactics into the most advanced AdWords strategies we use to give our clients every advantage in the marketplace.

Later in this chapter, we cover specific situations where cloning is indicated, as well as cases where it isn't. Right now, though, we need to reiterate the reasons for cloning as opposed to just adding a network or a couple of countries or a device to an existing campaign.
