The changing context of South Asian economies

Abstract:

We describe globalization as a phenomenon that embodies transformation, manifests complexity, and necessitates learning, in order to establish the importance of change and learning in today’s environment. We present South Asia as a region where complexity and transformation are apparent; and highlight its growing influence in the global economy, as well as the many challenges that hinder its socioeconomic development. Throughout this chapter (and this volume) we discuss contradictory and opposing forces that pose conflicting demands upon managers in South Asia (Khilji, 2002, 2003, 2004; Sinha et al., 2002).
