Globalization of Higher Education: Implications for India

The growth of Indian higher education in the last two decades has been phenomenal in terms of enrolment ratio and number of institutions. The growth is largely attributed to the faster growth of private institutions consequent to the slower growth of public- funded institutions. The emergence of ‘for-profit’ educational institutions signifies the conception that education is a tradable service and that the main aim of education is to impart employable skills.
