This chapter will examine a wide range of relationships that can be subsumed under the heading of global majority–minority relations (Chapman and Werthheimer 1990; Yetman 1991). The focus will be on the problems and difficulties experienced by minority groups, but it will be presented in the context of the fact that many of those difficulties are traceable to the thoughts (e.g. prejudice) and, more importantly, the actions (e.g. discrimination) of the majority group (Jackson 2007). The majority–minority relationships to be covered here are dominant and subordinate races and ethnic groups, male dominance over females, and heterosexual dominance of homosexuals and lesbians.
