17. South America: Spanish-Speaking Markets

Too often in the past we have heard that Latin America markets are not worth our attention because not much money was spent online. No longer can this be said. Rather, South America was something of a sleeping giant that woke up when several trends combined to create more rapid growth in Internet use and also search engines and social media use. In 2010, the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) noted online spending in all of Latin America was not even 5 percent of all ad spending. However, the IAB identified lots of room for growth, predicting 10 percent participation by 2016.
