Chapter 4. The Cost of Bias

Flashback: it was an early Monday morning and Eric awoke to a subtle pain in his chest. Rising slowly from the bed, he began his morning ritual: six-minute shower, three-minute suit selection, and then anywhere up to ten minutes creating the perfect shirt and tie combination from his treasured collection of custom-made shirts and designer ties. But as he got closer to being ready to leave for work, he found that the pains intensified. By the time he stood before the mirror crafting the perfect knot in his tie, the sharp spasms were traveling down his arms and extending through his fingertips. By the time he began to pull the knot tight, he was feeling light-headed and having difficulty breathing.
