Pay Attention to What Your Audience Needs

WELL, YOU’VE RESOLVED TO rehearse at least three times, and you’ve agreed to try to stretch yourself in a few areas where you think you may be weak. You’re not done. It’s time to put the emphasis back on the audience—yes, even during the rehearsal process.

This step is not about fundamentally changing the content of your talk. It’s about further shaping, cutting, and trimming what’s already there, on your feet with the audience in mind. If there are gaps to be filled, or parts that need to be cut, they are best discovered in rehearsal.
