Involve the Audience

YOU’RE READY TO COMPLETE YOUR preparation of the content of your speech by thinking about how to get the audience involved, especially during the action step.

It helps to talk about a few categories. Broadly speaking, in my experience, there are four good ways to involve your audience.

  1. TEACH: Get the audience to take what they’ve learned and test it against someone else, or coach someone else in their development. Get them to pledge something to their neighbors—a commitment to a new form of behavior, or some longer-term goals.
