Summary

We discussed the overall architecture and I/O flow on a VSAN datastore, the structure and components that enable such an architecture and facilitates performance, availability, and capacity management at the software layer. While most of the discussions are purely to understand how things work, there is very little that a vSphere administrator needs to worry about other than configuring the appropriate policies and letting VSAN do its magic.

In the next chapter, we will discuss some design considerations to optimize the VSAN design and adhere to certain best practices.
