Appendix B. Arduino IDE Setup

Here’s how to set up the Arduino integrated development environment (IDE) on various platforms.

Ubuntu Linux

Connect Arduino to your computer with a USB cable. Arduino draws power directly from the USB, so no external power supply is needed. Start the terminal application.

Note

You can start the command-line terminal in many ways. You can open it in the main menu with Applications → Accessories → Terminal (on Xubuntu and other XFCE-based distributions such as Debian with XFCE). Super-T, also known as the ugly key or Windows key, works on many desktops. If you are using Unity in the standard Ubuntu distribution, search for “Terminal” in Dash (top-left corner).
