Adding a material

While you are painting it is best to have a material on your object that is a matte white so the colors you are putting on the model are represented accurately. Choose a material like SkinShade4, Blinn, or MatCap White. Sometimes it is useful to apply the FlatColor material and white color value to get a view of your model with just the colors on it and no shading. By default, the entire model will update to the new material automatically. This is a quick way to test out different materials and to see which one works best for your model. If you want to permanently apply a material to your model, choose the M button on the top shelf, set Rgb Intensity = 100, and use the Color.FillObject command.
