Cloning an object in 3ds Max can be accomplished by transforming the object while holding the Shift key and then choosing the type of clone (copy, instance, or reference) with the option of creating a single clone or multiple clones, each with the same off set of the original transformation. This method of cloning is useful for creating a line of office desks where the exact off set distance is not critical, for example. You can create a similar array by using the Shift key while rotating an object.
