Function Point Estimation Method

A required input to many cost estimating methods is an estimate of the number of lines of source code in the final product. The function point method can be used to obtain just such an estimate (Kemerer, 1993).

The function point method estimates source code size by using an intermediate variable called function points. After a value for the number of function points has been computed and adjusted for factors I discuss later and a programming language has been selected, you can compute an estimate for the number of lines of source code.
