Terms to Know

Input: An input is analog or digital data that flows into a recording device such as a camera. Input may also refer to a physical connection that accepts data from another connector.

Output: Output refers to analog or digital data that flows away from a source, such as from one recording device to another. An output may also refer to a physical connection that sends data into an input.

Analog: The term “analog” describes data that flows in a continuous, often variable mechanical or electrical signal. Analog devices include the phonograph and early tape recorders.
