Once you get into investing you become very interested in those small items tacked onto radio and TV news programmes telling you whether the market is up or down.

‘How is the Footsie doing today?’ you might ask; or ‘Is the Dow having a good day?’

Even though we are long-term investors, and we know that day to day movements are not very relevant to anything, we can’t help ourselves.
