APPLICATION OF SITE CHARACTERIZATION TO DESIGN

7.1Introduction

A primary objective of any site characterization program is to evaluate engineering properties of subsurface materials such that they may be used in design. To that end, results of field and laboratory tests are used to estimate values of various parameters, which characterize the soil, specific to the types of applications that are being designed. The process of evaluating these properties is explained in this chapter in general terms.
