The Eavesdropper Shot

What does it look like?

The shot starts wide showing a conversation in the background and a character in the foreground listening. The shot then slowly pushes into a tighter shot and becomes more intimate as the character and the audience listen.

How’s it done?

It’s accomplished by using a dolly or Steadicam to push into a tighter shot.

When should I use it?

Use this shot when you want the audience to listen to the conversation alongside the character. It’s particularly good when story information is being divulged.
